Landscaping on the Entry Wetlands is underway!
11/10/2021
The Entry Wetlands will create a spectacular first impression, entrance to the community and set the scene of life at Canopy as one connected to nature. The Entry Wetlands (or Stage 5 Wetlands) are located to the west of the community and signal the entrance to the current Display Village. The Wetlands are set to become a visual and attractive feature of the community for residents to sit by and enjoy but they also have a practical function, which is to capture and clean water runoff from the Canopy Community. The native wetland planting has been designed to clean the water by removing sediment & pollutants. These plants filter the water before it enters the local waterway system, creating a healthier environment for all. Footpath works have begun with picnic tables and bench seating to be placed in between patches of existing established Canopy trees along the footpath network on either side of the wetland. This will provide local residents with access through the parklands and connections to the broader Canopy pedestrian network, local community and open spaces. Laying of the seed for the grassed areas is next and Spring is a great time to do this with plentiful sun & rain expected. The landscaping team will then move on to planting the smaller trees and shrubs. The plant species that have been selected for planting across the site consists of terrestrial, ephemeral and aquatic species that will not only provide habitat for local birds and animals but also enhance the visual uniqueness of the area. The selected flora for planting around the wetland also plays a part in the waters cleaning process and even today many bird species can be seen in and around the water’s edge. Landscaping works have also recently been completed on the Woodland Tree Reserve which is the linear reserve extending from Snead Boulevard to Cupit Street. Featuring shared paths winding throughout, park seating and picnic tables, this will be a great space that everyone in the community will be able to enjoy. The reserve is now open to the neighbourhood and is a lovely place to take a minute for yourself surrounded by the established gum trees. Completion of the Stage 5 Wetlands is expected by the end of the year and we look forward to the community enjoying this important component of the extensive open space provided at Canopy. Stay tuned for more updates. Want to know more about the planned works in your community?
